Neotame powder, E961, Cas no.165450-17-9, low calorie artificial food sweetener, manufacturing process from chemical synthesis, Aspartame and 3,3-dimethylbutyraldehyde as the raw material.er, and is the sweetest of all the sugar alcohol.
Neotame is one of the newest artificial sweetener, a derivative of aspartame. Neotame is 7000 to 13,000 times sweeter than sugar and has no calories. Synthesis of neotame involve the hydrogenation of L-α-aspartyl–L-phenylalanine I methyl ester and 3–3 dimethylbutyraldehyde produced in-situ by the hydrolysis or cleavage of a 3-3-dimethylbutyraldehyde precursor. Neotame is an odorless white to gray-white powder with a strong sweetness and is readily soluble in alcohols and slightly soluble in water. Globally, neotame is approved for use in multiple countries in North America, South American, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. In June 2003, the JECFA confirmed the safety of neotame and granted an ADI of 2 mg kg−1 bw per day.
